IN FASHION: As the slippery slope of fashion rolls, another fashion house, this time Lanvin, is losing its top designer. But these fashion rivers of change merge and connect as it is rumored Belgian fashion designer Raf Simons, who just stepped down at Dior, will be replaced by Moroccan-born Israeli designer Alber Elbaz. Elbaz just announces his departure from Lanvin after 14 years. He has been praised for his draped styles for Lanvin and is widely admired for his positive demeanor in an often high-strung fashion world.
Only last week, Elbaz received the 2015 Superstar Award at the Fashion Group International’s Night of Stars, presented to him by his close friend and multiple Oscar winner, Meryl Streep.
The designer may be most respected and envied for his exquisite red carpet gowns. From Emma Stone’s elegant crystal jumpsuit to Nicole Kidman’s raspberry sorbet-colored gown, there’s no shortage of Elbaz’s Lanvin creations. He’s experimented with color, such as Claire Danes’ vibrant, lemon yellow gown, and even taken his draping skills to the next level for Natalie Portman. More recently, he provided Allison Williams with a head-turning metallic gown.
IN HEALTH: I have thought a lot lately about staying positive, as the will to do so dissipates with a chronic health condition. For me, it is chronic migraines. The main thing I do to mentally lift myself up is strive to think about what I have, not what I don’t have. It is a simple thing. But if you practice listing in your mind what you have, it actually does reset your perspective and attitude.
IN PODCASTS: I am loving Yale University’s free podcast courses on Itunes and have just begun an Early Middle Ages course. It is very interesting and the more I listen to these history podcasts, the better I do at Jeopardy each night.
What do you do each day or week to lift yourself up? Love, Kathryn (the “Haute Angel”)
