STEP #1 NAME YOUR BLOG AND HOSTING

Hate the word marketing? Don’t. It’s a good thing and it begins with a catchy name for your blog. So what do you want your domain name to be?

Mine is Ok, think of as many different ideas as possible. Once you’ve thought of some catchy contenders, jot them down and then head to Bluehost to see if your domain name is available by entering it in the box that looks like this:

Starting a Food Blog - Picking Your Domain Name

You will be asked to pick your plan level I’d suggest the Starter Plan, which is paid in one lump sum instead of monthly, but it’ll save you quite a bit of cash. I picked the middle one when I started my self-hosted blog, but I took over a year to move to self-hosting and that was a mistake. Either of the three are great options.

Bluehost Plan Options

I wish I had hosted my domain name from the beginning. Hosting is like renting space on the web to display your blog. Bluehost has great rates and gives you your domain name for free if you decide to host with them. I bought mine through WordPress then later had to pay to move it to Bluehost.

Bluehost has incredible support. I am not technologically-inclined, but one phone call and I had my site up and running.

Below is a screenshot of the cheapest package information settings.  Domain Privacy (.83 per month) keeps your personal address and phone number from being displayed to the public.

                                      STEP #2 INSTALLING WORDPRESS

Once you’ve completed registration with Bluehost you’ll need to go through the process of installing WordPress. WordPress is blogging software. Best of all, it’s free and it’s easy to use.

WordPress is the software that I use for Here’s how:

Login to Bluehost and find the Website Builders section. Click on the WordPress logo.

Wordpress Install for Bluehost

On the next page click the “Install” button in the “Do it yourself FREE” section.

Installing WordPress on Your Food Blog

Click the “Check Domain” button.

Bluehost Check Domain

Check the terms and conditions box and then click the “Install Now” button.

Bluehost - Install WordPress

Once you get the message that says “Your install is complete!” you’ll want to click on the “View Credentials” button and write down your Admin URL, Username, and Password.

You can change these to something more memorable later, but you’ll need them for your first time logging in.

Bluehost Installation Complete

Type your Admin URL into your web browser. You’ll see a login screen like the one below. Enter your Username and Password you copied down from the previous step.

You have just logged into your VERY OWN blog. Congratulations!

At this point, you are ready to lend your voice, ideas, and photos to the cyberworld with your own blog! Welcome!

You are literally a few minutes away from sharing your creativity with the world.

Before you jump into the fray, there are a few things you can do to personalize your blog. It’s time to pick your blog’s theme! WordPress has hundreds of free themes to pick from. You can scan through the options here.

If you’re looking for a premium theme, check out these options:

  1. Suits Theme – This is the current template I use for HauteAngel.
  2. Elegant Themes – I think Elegant Themes looks great, is easy to use, and has quite a few different options. It’s also a bit cheaper then the other premium themes listed here. Take a look and see what you think.

    1. I think we all have something to offer, you never know a short post could make someone happy, someone change, someone want to go on who is feeling down. We need to get our heads out of our phones and communicate. Thanks for the comment!
