Hauteangel recommends – Raleigh’s carolina ballet

One of my favorite things to do, being a former dancer myself, is attend the ballet and Raleigh, NC has a premier company called the Carolina Ballet. I highly recommend all of their performances, especially the Nutcracker during the holidays. The Four Temperaments - The Four Temperaments, photo by Russ Howe, choreography © The George Balanchine TrustHonoring the legacy of America’s greatest choreographer, they are presenting a program featuring George Balanchine’s choreographic genius. Balanchine’s legendary status comes from having crafted not only a vision for the stage, but also charting a new course for the entire art form. Over the years, Carolina Ballet has introduced audiences to 22 of Balanchine’s ballets. This season highlights The Four Temperaments, an avant-garde work inspired by the medieval belief that emotions are driven by the four humors. In keeping with Balanchine’s pared down concept, The Four Temperaments is an example of his traditional black and white genre.

Rounding out the program will be Balanchine’s Allegro Brilliante and Tarantella along with Robert Weiss’ Grosse Fug and premiere, The Double.
