Investment pieces are where you should spend the most money on your wardrobe. Every fashion article says that, because it is wise and I agree. But “invest” doesn’t mean break the bank. Investment pieces are the items you will wear again, year after year, because they are timeless.
1) Purchase a great tuxedo blazer:
This is always in fashion but really trending this season particularly. Notice Rhianna and Emma Watson, one wearing it oversized as a dress and bare-breasted, one wearing it tailored and chic. The 2014 British Fashion Awards ceremony was held at the London Coliseum, where guests including Anna Wintour, Emma Watson, and Cara Delevingne were honored by the British Fashion Council for their stylish achievements. A blazer will pair with skirts, jeans and slacks…the possibilities are endless. Thus, invest! Or better yet, search for a vintage blazer at thrift stores, Etsy, and online shops such as Poshmark, ShopHers, The RealReal. Look in the men’s section for smaller tuxedos men can’t fit into anymore, because the jackets are perfect for women.
From ModCloth, this cream and black trim tuxedo blazer is a nice option for $69.99
2) Buy a great red dress: I agree that a Little Black Dress (the “LBD”) is a nice go-to for women, but think about investing in a great red dress. Scarlett O’Hara knew how to sway the room and it wasn’t in black. Pictured below are guests of the 2014 American Museum of Natural History Gala. Notice the photograph of Cameron Diaz and Naomi Campbell. The eye is naturally drawn to Diaz dressed in a stunning orangey-red.
From Lulu’s, this is a great red dress for $95:
3) Purchase a great skirt in navy and/or black. I love the flared skirt with the tiny waist:
From Gypsy Warrior: The It Girl Midi Skirt, marked down to $40.60
From ModCloth, this navy stunner is $79.99:
or this one for $49.99:
Have a great evening. Love, HauteAngel
